For this reasons, auto insurance companies are more pertinent to offer cheap auto insurance for women drivers than they are to men drivers. Some insurers are even offering to cover the women’s handbag aside from the optional extras that one could get from an ordinary car insurance policy. • Make sure the tow truck has a municipal license number on its side before you use its services.
• Look to see if the tow truck is affiliated with a reputable company such as an automotive roadside assistance group or automobile association.
• Ask if the tow truck has a police contract.
• Listen for obvious clues. Does the driver recommend a particular repair facility without being asked? If he/she does, this might be an indication that a referral fee arrangement exists.
• Carefully read everything the tow truck driver asks you to sign.
• Ask that your car be taken to a secure location where an adjuster or appraiser from your insurance company can have access to it. Some municipalities require that your vehicle be taken to a Collision Reporting Centre or police station before it goes anywhere else.
• Contact your insurance company, if possible, for information on towing and where to take your car to be repaired.
• Consider having your car towed to a preferred car repair shop. Some insurance companies use preferred repair shops where they have an agreement that guarantees your vehicle will be repaired to the highest possible standards. For more information, contact your insurance company.

Put all together information about the accident – police report, pictures of the damaged car, pictures of your injuries, medical bills. This will help you in your negotiation. Insurance adjusters often times request for copies of these documents and having them at hand will signal to them that you mean business. They will try to intimidate you, compare your claim to other settlements they have handled. Let them know that your claim is for your accident and not for the ones they have negotiated. Have an idea on hand about how much settlement you would agree to, based on actual costs of repairs and use of good replacement parts.

Insurance companies also give nine out of ten IAM members lower premiums. IAM Associates also enjoy discounts on AA services and issues of their magazine. Enrolment in the programme sets a maximum of penalty points on the driver’s license. Though the Skill for Life programme is run by volunteers who get the drivers ready within a period of 12 to 16 weeks, a more expensive Fast Track option exists for those with much less time.

Not only are car insurance costs lower for women, they also receive other benefits, that perhaps men do not enjoy, particularly through women-only car insurance companies that have sprung up in recent years. These free services include handbag cover for a bag and its contents, confidential counseling after a traumatic incident, a courtesy car while repairs are being done, window etching to deter against theft, and unlimited windscreen cover. It’s definitely a great time to be a female driver! Interestingly enough, these insurance companies have also diversified into home and travel insurance. Could gender specificity be the face of insurance in the future?
