A common accident scam is the Panic Stop. The criminal drives a late model car with his passengers as accomplice. He positions himself in front of the victim and asks one of his passengers to see for any signs of distraction of the intended victim, anything that takes the victim’s eyes off the road. The passenger signals the driver as soon as he notices this and the driver hits the brakes causing the following car to crash into him. The victim’s claim that the perpetrator stopped short for no obvious reason is usually ignored or could not be proven. The victim then has to pay for the damages and injuries caused.

Committing an insurance fraud does not affect only the insurance company but all other insurers as a whole. People performing these acts think that it is a victimless crime but in reality it is not. A fraud committed steals from every insurance buyer because it causes premiums to escalate to cover the cost of the scheme. Auto insurance fraud generates a sizeable amount of losses annually and patrons have been pushing for stricter measures and penalties for anybody caught doing it. It often causes us to wonder whether fraudsters are doing this act out of need or out of greed.

Yes, it is convenient having a car, but you should be prepared for eventual repairs. Cars are complex machines, and could break down at any given time. Knowing the parts and understanding basic repair is a must for car owners. One of the most common parts that need attention is the brakes. This is a part that could wear down and disappear over time. Regular inspection will let you know when to get a replacement.
Another common problem deals with the engine. This may involve the fuel lines, carburetor or any other part that makes your engine run. At the first sign of trouble, it is best to have it checked by a trusted mechanic rather than wait for it to escalate into a major mechanical failure.

When deciding to buy auto insurance, it is advisable to study what coverage is on offer. There are three types of coverage: liability, collision and comprehensive. Liability coverage deals with the cost to damages, medical expenses for injuries and lost wages of the third party when you are at fault for the accident. For collision coverage, the insurance pays the cost of repairs or the replacement according to its market value, when your vehicle is damaged during a collision, regardless of who’s at fault. In the comprehensive coverage, in cases where it is stolen or damaged by natural disasters, fire or flood, the insurance will pay for the repair or the replacement of your vehicle.
